Hello Brave New Blog
Hello!
And welcome, ME!, to Today.com. It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill.
What is this blog about?
It’s about music, anything and everything to do with it. As some may have guessed from the title and the username, I am a fan of punk rock: Radio G String is a Bow Wow Wow Song; Astro Zombie(s) is a Misfits song. I’m also a fan of a million other different genres and artists, so fear not, this will not just lean on heaviness.
I will want to discuss the industry, the sounds, the bands, the gigs, the promotions, etc. of music. Anything from seeing the Metallica to discussing musicians embracing FREE music. I will, occasionally, be uploading stuff I have done previously, perhaps just to bulk up the posts occasionally.
Any input from anybody is welcome, so please leave me a message and rock to this brand new beat.
Anway –
Back to free music: the music industry is going through, hopefully, a massive change that will NOT see the end of the compact disc (CD) album, just the end of a means of distribution of it.
Amongst the biggest embracers of this new means of distribution is goth rocker and Nine Inch Nails overlord Trent Reznor, who released, yesterday, a second free album in the form of The Slip:
“Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years - this one’s on me.”
we encourage you to
remix it
share it with your friends,
post it on your blog,
play it on your podcast,
give it to strangers
The problem of what do you new bands do?! Isn’t even close to be being solved, but Trent Reznor has already produced Saul Williams - ‘The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust’ and they released it free and it helped to find Saul Williams a wider audiance, including me (he’s rather good).
Maybe that’s what established bands who agree with distribution: take a band or three under their wings and encourage and produce them and give them the publicity and distribute them. It could work, on a small scale, at the beginning…
That’s all for today, anyway. Please leave comments and questions and pictures (nothing un-worksafe, please. I won’t even censor anything as long as it’s worksafe!)
