Shaking Sticks At Things …
Coming up trumps after the bank holiday:
Fantastic prog indie (they’re American, it’s okay if they’re indie) Maps & Atlases are streaming the title track from their upcoming new EP their MySpazz page: both be called You And Me And The Mountain (released 16th June).
Weezer have made a video inspired by all the crazy shit that goes up on this here t’internet – and any video that has the drummer playing with mini-lightsabers has my vote.
Mike Park, he of Asian Man Records, Skankin’ Pickle, and the Chinkees, has accepted $10, 000 from Rupert Murdoch through his Plea For Peace Foundation. Now, I know the money will almost certainly be used for a good cause but I still can’t understand the unabashed use of MySpace by the likes of left-leaning media individuals. If you have a stance, why not stick by it? MySpace is an influential part of the internet, but still – The major record labels are an influential part of the music business, many people have got by without them thus far … by using Myspace, you’re putting money in Murdoch’s pocket … he says, having linked people to a Myspace page in the first part of this post. Ar – and, indeed - gh.
Another fine left-leaning punk instituation, Alternative Tentacles, have produced a documentary on the legendry collective 924 Gilman Street venue in Berkley, California. Contributions from Jello Biafra, Ian MacKaye, Lars Frederickson, Matt Freeman, Dave Scattered and Sweettooth: yes it’s a myspace video …
